One city where the Women’s World Cup is a big deal

The US women’s soccer team has made a magical run to the World Cup final, and will play for the championship Sunday. Some of the excitement has been drowned out by people making a fuss over the relevance of soccer in the United States.

And while The Wall Street Journal’s Jason Gay gave one way of moving past that argument, I know of one city that will drop everything to cheer on the team.

That city is Rochester, New York — hometown of American star Abby Wambach. I worked on a story in today’s Post that declares Wambach “Rochester’s rock star.”

There are also some New York City bars excited for the final, which I wrote about in this story.
