I wrote a story about students honoring an inspiring teacher

Maj. Jeffrey Neal Pruitt’s Junior ROTC students showed up to William Byrd High School in uniform on Monday. The students, who are only required to wear the JROTC dress on Wednesdays and Thursdays, had begun honoring a teacher who inspired many to go above and beyond.

Thursday afternoon, William Byrd students and officials honored Pruitt with a ceremony and three-volley salute. Pruitt, the senior instructor for the Air Force JROTC program at the Roanoke County high school, died at the age of 48 on Saturday after a 12-year battle with cancer.
